Where Curiosity Meets the Coast

New River Middle School is Fort Lauderdale's home for hands-on learning, marine science exploration, and a community as vibrant as the ocean we study.

Discover Our Programs

More Than a School —
A Launchpad

At New River Middle School, students don't just read about marine ecosystems — they wade into them. Our Marine Science magnet program puts sixth through eighth graders face-to-face with the real thing: tagging sharks, studying coral systems, and learning what it means to protect the waters in our backyard.

But marine science is just the beginning. From robotics competitions and culinary arts to award-winning band performances and a thriving e-sports program, every student finds their thing here. We're proud to be one of Broward County's most diverse middle schools, and that diversity is our superpower — it shapes kinder, sharper, more creative kids who are ready for whatever comes next.

Beyond the Classroom

What They Say

"My daughter came home from her first shark tagging trip and told me she wants to be a marine biologist. I've never seen her this excited about school. New River didn't just teach her — it sparked something."

Maria Gonzalez · Parent

"I was nervous starting sixth grade, but the teachers here actually care about you. I joined robotics and e-sports, and now I have friends who love the same stuff I do. This school feels like home."

Jayden T. · 8th Grade Student

"Teaching here is different. When you can take your students out to the river and show them what they've been studying in real life, that's when the magic happens. These kids surprise me every single day."

Ms. Adrienne Palmer · Marine Science Teacher
